Hi, there! My name is Melissa. It so nice to make new friends.
One of the most satisfying things that I do, and one that brings a smile to my face each time, is to arrange and prepare a place, or a room, or an event, (or a pillow, or a candle! It’s the little things), and then notice as my family enjoys it.
If you are like me, you want more time that matters with your family.
You want to not just have a pretty kitchen, but to live life out with your family in it.
You know that the point isn’t in having the kitchen clean, but in baking cookies with your kids or sharing coffee with a friend, or dancing with your husband (isn’t the kitchen for dancing, most of all?).
What is the point after all, if you look back years later and see that your kitchen was stylish but it never hosted a sprinkle bonanza with you and your kids?
What if it never got messy with dough and little faces freckled with flour?
My children’s bedrooms ought to be pretty. They ought to have cute curtains and happy words on the walls.
But it also ought to have me, reading books with my children and counting piggies on toes.
A bedroom is for fluffy pillows and snug beds, but also for nooks and crannies, dress-ups and little boxes of treasures, a room my child can really make theirs, whether we have lived in a home for years or just moved.
What if your house was Pinterest-perfect, but it was still not a home?
This blog is for you, and it is for me, as we set out, each day, to make our houses into homes.
I am not perfect at this. At times I really fail! But, I am learning, and I invite you to come along on this journey. I hope that we can inspire each other, as we seek to be a blessing to our families and all who come into our homes.

A Home is Something More
Let’s organize. Let’s have fun. Let’s make our surroundings lovely. Let’s tidy up and make things clean and fresh. Most of all, let’s organize for togetherness.
Not the kind of togetherness that means you are perfectly on top of everything: the kind of togetherness that brings your family together.
This is cleaning, planning, organizing, decorating (I love these things!) with a goal in mind.
Make a mess. Make a room. Make a plan. And most of all, make memories.
Stuff about me (that is why you clicked this page, right?):
I am wife to David, the love of my life. Six children call me mommy. They are the ones who make me one of the most hugged people in the world. I have one child, a sweet baby girl, who we lost to congenital heart disease. Yes, I know sorrow, but I also know Jesus Christ, who gives strength to the broken hearted and joy where there would be none. He is light and life-everlasting.
(Some!) things that I love:
Rainy days when the raindrops fall fat onto the ground, the windows make music, and its snug and dry inside.
The way sunlight falls through the window blinds into puddles on the floor.
The sound of the dishwasher running in a clean kitchen at the end of the day.
Flickering candles in the center of my people gathered around the same table.
The smell of lavender bubbles as little hands splash in the tub.
Wrapping up freshly cleaned little ones in fluffy towels.
Sweet newborn snuggles of a tiny life just received.
The crisp pages of potential in a new planner or notebook. Pens to write with.
Organizing shelves and labeling everything!
Dimpled toddler hands, freckles, Easter hats, stacks of books, the smell of coffee, checking off lists, quiet mornings, and messy art projects.
And, I really love, that you, lovely reader, wanted to read this blog!
